ROLE

This role exists to bridge civil engineering expertise and written content. We regularly need technical and academic material - reports, papers, case studies, and analyses - that involves engineering concepts, drawings, data interpretation, and software-based analysis, and that requires someone who has actually worked with the tools and concepts, not someone paraphrasing a textbook from a distance.

This isn't a role for a generalist content writer who can search their way through engineering terminology. It's for someone with a genuine civil engineering background, who can read a structural drawing, interpret a dataset, run analysis in AutoCAD, Primavera, or Revit, and then explain all of it clearly and accurately in writing.

You'll work on a freelance, assignment basis, picking up pieces as they come in and delivering work that holds up to real technical scrutiny, on time, every time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Produce technical and academic writing covering civil engineering concepts, drawings, and data-driven analysis
• Interpret and explain engineering drawings, models, and datasets accurately in written form
• Apply practical, working knowledge of AutoCAD, Primavera, and Revit to support software-based analysis within assignments
• Carry out data analysis relevant to assigned topics and present findings clearly and correctly
• Interpret briefs accurately and deliver content that matches scope, technical depth, and required format
• Apply appropriate referencing and formatting conventions as required by each assignment
• Ensure all submitted work is original, technically accurate, and free of plagiarism
• Revise and refine submissions promptly based on feedback
• Manage multiple assignments and consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality

REQUIREMENTS

• A background in Civil Engineering (degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience)
• Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering concepts, drawings, and data analysis
• Practical, hands-on skills in AutoCAD, Primavera, and Revit
• Strong written English with the ability to explain technical material clearly for an academic or professional reader
• Ability to interpret briefs independently and work with minimal supervision
• Reliable and deadline-driven, comfortable managing multiple concurrent assignments
• Prior technical, academic, or freelance writing experience is an advantage, though not mandatory for engineers confident in their writing
