Do you get excited about building financial systems from the ground up and turning data into actionable insights? Do you want to play a key role in the growth of a dynamic holding company with diverse ventures? If so, Magpie Nest wants you!

Magpie Nest is a holding company with a portfolio of exciting ventures in the UK, USA, and Bangladesh. We're not your typical company – we're building our financial infrastructure to provide real insights, not just generate basic reports. We currently use Google Sheets, believing that a deep understanding of our needs must come before implementing off-the-shelf software. We need a passionate and skilled Assistant Manager to help us create "killer" accounting and finance systems and deliver the data-driven stories that will drive our strategic decisions.

This isn't just a bookkeeping role. You'll be a key partner to the Group CEO, Chairman, and other key stakeholders (CEOs of ventures), analyzing data, identifying trends, and presenting findings in a way that informs critical business choices. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, build something amazing, and have a significant impact, this is your opportunity.

Our Core Values (Alignment is Non-Negotiable):

  1. We strive for excellence and continuous improvement with great vision.
  2. We aim to grow together with loyalty, dedication, and a collective mindset.
  3. We value honest and direct communication.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Financial Systems Development:
    • Design and implement scalable accounting and finance processes using Google Sheets (initially).
    • Develop a deep understanding of our diverse business operations to create tailored financial systems.
    • Help us migrate to an ERP or accounting system in the near future.
    • Evaluate and recommend future ERP or accounting software solutions based on our evolving needs.
  2. Reporting & Analysis:
    • Generate timely and accurate conventional financial reports (e.g., Balance Sheets, Income Statements).
    • Develop unorthodox reports and analyses to provide unique insights into business performance.
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
    • Translate complex data into clear, concise, and compelling stories for the Group CEO, Chairman, and other key stakeholders.
    • Prepare Management Accounts for all the ventures.
  3. Strategic Support:
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
    • Collaborate with various departments across our ventures to gather data and ensure accuracy.
    • Support the Group CEO, Chairman, and other key stakeholders with ad-hoc financial analysis and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain the company's chart of accounts.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Group CEO, Chairman, and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyze variances and provide explanations for fluctuations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

What You Bring:

  • Experience and Skills:
    • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (ACCA/CA/ICMA part qualification is a plus).
    • Prior experience in working in the UK & USA markets.
    • At least 2-3 years of experience in accounting/finance, preferably in a multi-business environment.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
    • Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets (or Excel).
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Values and Qualities:
    • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
    • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn.
    • The mindset to work beyond hours if needed to deliver meaningful reports.
    • Willingness to be flexible with work hours to accommodate occasional communication during UK business hours.
  • Cultural Fit:
    • Embraces Magpie Nest's core values of striving for excellence and continuous improvement with great vision, growing together with loyalty, dedication, and a collective mindset, and valuing honest and direct communication.
    • A collaborative spirit and a passion for building something great.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with multiple business types or industries.
  • Experience with financial modeling.
  • Familiarity with accounting software implementation.

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to build something truly impactful.
  • A dynamic and challenging work environment.
